Fort St. John Community Arts Council – Arts Survey (1981)

This catalogue is an Arts Survey of the Community and Schools created by the Fort St. John Community Arts Council in cooperation with School District 60 and the Fort St. John campus of Northern Lights College. Completed in 1981 when Sue Popesku was President of the FSJ Community Arts Council, the survey includes an overview of Fort St. John’s community groups and art related programming in schools.

Northern Groove (2010)

Northern Groove is an arts and culture magazine that focuses on the Peace Region. The Zombie Walk was highlighted in this October 2010 edition.

Arts and Culture in Fort St. John (c. 2006-2009)

The following news clippings are from around 2006-2009 and include articles related to a mural painted by Margaret May at C.M. Finch Elementary School, the School District 60 Junior Band, columns by Aleisha Hendry and Barb Daley, a quilt donation by Pauline Lindley, tourism, and a donation to the Fort St. John Community Arts Council by Chances Casino.

Arts in Fort St. John (1980-1983)

A collection of newspaper clippings relating to arts and culture in the Fort St. John community. These include the Concert Society, the Visual Arts and Music programs at Northern Lights College, the BC Annual Student Film Festival, the Fort St. John Public Library, North Peace Weavers Guild, Can-Canettes, Stage North, and a photo of the 1980 Executive of the Fort St. John Community Arts Council in which Sue Popesku was elected as President. This catalogue includes some photos of Sue.

The Community Centre Committee Cultural Theatre Idea (1980)

These news articles relate to the proposal from the Community Centre Committee (which included Sue Popesku and Bob Bennetts, mentioned in these articles) for a cultural facility and includes news regarding the Peace River Regional District voting in favour of the project. The idea for a cultural centre began around 1977 and at that time Northern Lights College had considered including a Fort St. John campus in the facility. However, in 1980, the College withdrew.

Stage North’s Chicago (2010)

In 2010 the Stage North Theatre Society put on the production Chicago. Sue Popesku was in charge of Programs and Promotions. Sue was the Executive Director of Stage North at the time.

The Grand Opening of the North Peace Cultural Centre – News Articles (1992)

The Cultural Centre was opened in 1992, housed in the old Hudson’s Bay building. The grand opening was called Bright Nights in June, which would continue as an annual event. The news articles highlight the Fort St. John Public Library, the Theatre, Artspace, and the announcement of the Cultural Centre’s manager, Ian Forsyth. The catalogue also includes some pictures of the construction of the centre.

High on Ice Winter Festival (2013)

High on Ice is a local event that from its inception to 2012 the City of Fort St. John contracted to the Fort St. John Community Arts Council. This catalogue includes photos of buttons from 2013 and the 2013 The Energizer newsletter that provides details on the event.

High on Ice Winter Festival (2007)

High on Ice is a local event that has professional ice carvers that compete in different competitions. Since its inception to 2012, the City of Fort St. John contracted the event to the Fort St. John Community Arts Council. The event draws the community together to celebrate. In addition to the beautiful ice sculptures, this family event includes slides made out of ice for the children.

High on Ice is a local event that has professional ice carvers that compete in different competitions. Since its inception through to 2012, the City of Fort St. John contracted the event to the Fort St. John Community Arts Council. This catalogue includes articles from 2009 related to the City’s reduced funding and the council’s leaning toward the event becoming more local in order to reduce costs.

High on Ice Winter Festival (2005/2006)

High on Ice is a local event that has professional ice carvers that compete in different competitions. Since its inception through to 2012, the City of Fort St. John contracted the event to the Fort St. John Community Arts Council. This catalogue includes material from the 2005 and 2006 event.

From 1976 – the Fort St. John Festival of the Arts, the North Peace Art Group, plans for a cultural centre, the North Peace Secondary play “Oklahoma” produced by Sue Popesku, Rotary Pipe Band, the play “The Three Kings,” Potters Guild workshop, North Peace Senior Secondary Band, and the Mukluk Rendezvous.

From 1977 – North Peace Art Group, Cardinal Singers, Rotary Pipe Band, Potters, Dance Groups, Mukluk Rendezvous, and proposed cultural centre news.

From 1978 – North Peace Art Group, Northern Lights College, Weavers, North Peace School Band, Fort St. John Public Library and Arts Fair.
